Mountain Skills 1
Basic navigation techniques, map usage, timing and pacing, compass use, recognition of mountain hazards and
dressing appropriately in the hills.
Mountain Skills 2
Route planning, compass use and bearings, different terrain and steep ground, environmental impact,
emergency procedures and night navigation.
Our courses follow the BOS Mountain Skills syllabus and are provided by appropriately qualified and highly experienced staff.

Mountain Skills Assessment (MSA)
This is an optional assessment course for those wishing to test themselves and for those wishing to progress
onto Mountain Leader training. This is a 2-day assessment with both day and night navigation, proficiency on
steep ground and a written paper with multiple-choice questions. All entry requirements need to be fulfilled
to participate in the Mountain Skills Assessment.
