PROFILE

Baltinglass Outdoor Education Centre was established in 1987. Our objective then, as now, is to provide quality outdoor education programmes for young people. Our clients include the following groups:

We are based in the middle of Baltinglass, 36 miles from Dublin. Baltinglass town itself is a busy market town, which has grown around an ancient Cistercian Abbey (founded in 1154). We occupy what was originally the old Vocational School, now modified to cater for the needs of our student visitors.

We are fortunate to have, on our doorstep, most of the natural amenities necessary for outdoor sessions. Canoeing takes place on the nearby Slaney River. For Orienteering sessions we use Tuck Mill Wood. Our Rock-Climbing sessions involve a short minibus drive to Hollywood Crag. The Centre has an indoor climbing wall and a purpose built Abseiling wall. Archery takes place on site at our purpose built archery range. Ecology fieldwork takes place in the nearby Lords Wood.

Other facilities include: Accommodation for 45 participants (Dormitory style). A large dining room, all meals are provided and special dietary needs can be catered for. Two Centre mini buses. The Centre is open throughout the year.

SAFETY

The safety of our visitors is of paramount importance to us. We have in place a comprehensive safety policy including a child protection policy. All our instructional staff are highly qualified and instructor/student ratios are strictly observed. The Centre provides the latest and best specialist equipment required for activities. The Centre is fully insured with Irish Public Mutual Bodies Ltd.

The Outdoor Education Centre is under the ownership and direction of County Wicklow Vocational Education Committee.
